The Starter Block is a flexible public gathering space in the heart of downtown Fairbanks, designed for everyday activity, community connection, and seasonal programming. Stop by to explore local vendors, relax, participate in events, enjoy recreation and family-friendly activities, or simply spend time downtown. As the season progresses, new amenities, programming, and experiences will continue to be added throughout the site.

Hours & Info
The Starter Block site is intended to remain open to the public daily from approximately 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM throughout the summer season. Vendor hours, activities, and programming may vary depending on events, weather, staffing, and individual operations, so we encourage visitors to check the calendar and social media for the latest updates and featured happenings.
Accessibility
The Starter Block is intended to be a welcoming and accessible public space for residents and visitors of all ages and abilities. As the site continues to evolve, accessibility improvements and accommodations will continue to be incorporated into programming and amenities wherever possible.
Weather
​Programming and operations at the Starter Block are weather-dependent and may shift or change throughout the season. Fairbanks weather can be unpredictable, so we encourage visitors to dress appropriately and check the calendar or social media for updates.
Pets
Well-behaved pets are welcome at the Starter Block, though we ask that animals remain leashed and under supervision at all times. Please help us keep the space clean, comfortable, and enjoyable for everyone.​​
Facilities
Two public portable restrooms are available onsite through the summer season. Please note that the Starter Block does not currently have running water or permanent utility connections, so amenities may remain limited as the site continues to evolve and grow over time.​

The Turf (Rink)
What began as the Starter Block winter ice rink now transforms into a flexible summer event and activity space in the heart of downtown. The Event Arena will host rotating pop-up programming throughout the season — from human foosball and sumo wrestling to community games, performances, workshops, and special events — while also remaining open daily for casual activities like giant chess, cornhole, lawn games, and informal gathering. Designed to stay flexible and evolving, the space encourages both organized events and spontaneous play throughout the summer.

The Skate Park & Open Street Zone
Part skate spot, part flexible street space, this area is designed for movement, play, and experimentation. Skateboarding, roller skating, bike activities, pickup games, demonstrations, temporary art, and pop-up recreation can all spill into the open street environment as the block evolves throughout the summer.
